The United States Postal Service(USPS) is an independent United States government agency. Its predecessor was the United States Postal Service.


In 1971, It became the United States Postal Service. Since then, American congress no longer reserves the right to set mail rates. Still, nine of the 11 board members are appointed by the President of the United States.


The company is responsible for postal services throughout the United States, including mail delivery, parcel delivery, cargo transportation, postal services, and online services. The U.S. Postal Service has delivered 200 billion packages and mails about 40 percent of the world's total.

In 1999, its revenue reached $62,726 million. It is a very large company. Historically, the United States Postal Service has been a pioneer in helping the nation build information roads. 


In the 18th century, road mail was established to connect people to the country through mail delivery. Universal service was further supported in the mid-19th century by the establishment of railroad mail by the United States Postal Service.  Airmail routes were established, in the early 20th century.


In 1999, the United States Postal Service turned a new page in its postal history when it announced the nationwide introduction of personal computer postage. Since then, USPS users in the United States can purchase and print postage from their own personal computers and the Internet.


USPS Development Strategy
